Osun APC Criticizes Adeleke’s Foreign Trip Amid Rising Insecurity
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for traveling abroad while security challenges persist in the state.
In a statement on Saturday, issued by the State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, the APC accused the governor of displaying a lack of preparedness and competence to govern a complex state like Osun. The party said it had “almost given up on the series of persistent missteps and misgovernance characterising the three-year administration” of Adeleke.
The APC argued that since taking office in November 2022, Adeleke’s conduct has reflected either unpreparedness for governance or a significant lack of capacity. “His approach has shown that it is either he is not prepared for effective governance or he is grossly lacking in what it takes to govern the state,” the statement said.
The opposition party claimed that Adeleke appears more focused on the glamour of office than on fulfilling his administrative responsibilities, noting that many citizens are looking forward to November 2026, when his tenure will end.
The APC expressed concern over Adeleke’s recent trip to Texas, United States, to attend a birthday celebration while the state faces rising security threats, particularly with increased banditry in neighbouring Kwara. The party contrasted this with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to postpone a working visit to South Africa to attend to security issues in the northern region.
“It is difficult to explain that Governor Adeleke could choose to attend a birthday party while the state is under security threat. This year alone, he has made no fewer than six personal trips to the United States,” the APC stated.
The party also criticized the governor’s neglect of local governance, highlighting an eight-month inactivity at the grassroots level, and condemned his failure to address the ongoing Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) strike, which has kept state courts shut for over two months.
“All the state courts have been under lock and key while the number one citizen is busy dancing across cities and continents,” the APC said, urging residents to remain patient and vigilant until the next governorship election.
