PDP Demands Immediate Swearing-In of Abia Assembly Member-Elect Aaron Uzodike
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has urged the state House of Assembly to promptly swear in Hon. Aaron Uzodike, the member-elect for Aba North State Constituency.
Despite several months passing since the Appeal Court in Lagos restored Uzodike’s mandate, the Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emeruwa, has not inaugurated the PDP member. The court had previously removed Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party (LP) from the position.
Abia State PDP chairman Alwell Asiforo Okere, in a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Publicity Secretary and Vice Chairman of the Party, Elder Abraham Amah, directed the PDP caucus in the state assembly to ensure Uzodike’s inauguration. This directive followed consultations with members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party.
“Abia PDP is convinced that there are no legal obstacles preventing his inauguration, following the issuance of his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on December 13, 2023, which is the only requirement for his inauguration,” the statement said.
The PDP also called on Abia elders, concerned citizens, and conscientious members of the Labour Party to intervene and ensure Uzodike’s immediate inauguration to uphold democratic principles and prevent the constituents from resorting to self-help.
