SDP Candidate Vows to Reclaim “Stolen Mandate” at Supreme Court

Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 11, 2023, governorship election in Kogi State, expressed unwavering determination to pursue legal avenues to reclaim what he described as a “stolen mandate,” following the Court of Appeal’s affirmation of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s victory as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ajaka acknowledged the Court of Appeal’s verdict while asserting that irregularities and manipulations had influenced the outcome of the election petition. He reassured supporters of his steadfast commitment to uphold the rights and interests of the people of Kogi State despite this setback.

“We respect the decision of the Court of Appeal, but we firmly believe that certain irregularities and manipulations have tainted the outcome of this petition,” Ajaka stated. “Our legal team has tirelessly championed the cause for justice, and we will not allow this temporary setback to deter us from our mission.”

Calling for calm among supporters, Ajaka emphasized the importance of peaceful recourse to legal means in seeking redress. He urged against resorting to violence or unlawful behavior, underscoring the need to uphold democratic principles and pursue justice through the judicial process.

“I urge all our supporters to remain calm and peaceful amidst this disappointment and perceived injustice,” he urged. “I understand the frustrations and concerns that may arise, but violence is not the solution. We must continue to trust in the legal process and respect the rule of law.”

Acknowledging the efforts of his legal team, Ajaka praised their dedication and unwavering commitment to justice throughout the legal battle. He expressed confidence in their expertise and vowed to continue the fight until justice is served for the people of Kogi State.

“Our legal team has demonstrated exceptional dedication and legal prowess in this battle for justice,” he affirmed. “I commend them for their efforts and assure you that they will continue to vigorously pursue our case until justice prevails.”

While recognizing the disappointment caused by the verdict, Ajaka rallied his supporters to remain hopeful and resolute. He emphasized that the journey to reclaiming the “stolen mandate” was far from over, underscoring the determination to pursue legal remedies at the Supreme Court.

“Our journey to reclaim our stolen mandate does not end here. This is just another step in our pursuit of justice,” Ajaka declared. “We remain steadfast in our belief that truth will prevail and justice will be served. We are confident in the Nigerian judicial system and trust that the Supreme Court will rectify the injustices inflicted upon us.”

Looking ahead, Ajaka affirmed his commitment to preparing a robust case for the Supreme Court, leaving no stone unturned in seeking justice. He called on his political followers and the people of Kogi State to stand firm and united in the quest for justice and the restoration of their electoral mandate.
