Louie O’Doherty produced a career-best performance in hostile territory to claim the British lightweight title, forcing the corner of previously unbeaten Regan Glackin to throw in the towel in round 10 of their bout in Glasgow.

The Essex native, now 11-0 (3 KOs), showcased his sharp skills and relentless engine over 10 rounds, gradually breaking down Glackin before referee Steve Gray waved it off at 2:33 of the 10th, accepting the towel thrown in by Glackin’s coach, Joe Ham Sr.

While Glackin started the bout behind a long rangefinder jab that impressed commentators, analyst Carl Frampton was quick to highlight that O’Doherty’s double jab was equally, if not more, effective in the early going. That momentum carried through as O’Doherty consistently got the better of the exchanges.

The clash of styles made for an entertaining contest, but it was O’Doherty who imposed the pace, piling on pressure as the rounds wore on. By the end of the eighth, Glackin, bloodied and visibly fatigued, was struggling to keep up.

Despite being urged on by his corner ahead of the 10th, the Glasgow fighter’s legs began to betray him, repeatedly backing up under O’Doherty’s sustained attacks. With another fierce two-handed barrage coming in, Glackin’s team made the decisive call to stop the fight, protecting their fighter from further punishment.

The result marks Glackin’s first professional defeat, dropping his record to 16-1 (3 KOs). For O’Doherty, it’s a breakout win that sees him lift the prestigious Lonsdale Belt and announce himself as a major force in the British lightweight scene.
