Peter Fury Backs Conor Benn for Stronger Performance in Upcoming Eubank Jr. Rematch
Peter Fury has advised Conor Benn to take a smarter, more tactical approach when he faces Chris Eubank Jr in their highly anticipated rematch on November 15 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The two first met in April at the same venue, where Eubank (35-3, 28 KOs) narrowly edged a 12-round points victory in a hard-fought contest. Benn (23-1, 14 KOs), who fell just short, now has the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments in the return bout.
Speaking to Boxing News in Sheffield, veteran trainer Fury expressed confidence in Benn’s chances this time around.
“I think Benn can do more, and he’s going to learn from the first one,” Fury said. “Eubank looked drained at that weight. I’m surprised he’s going in again under the same conditions—same weight, same rules—because he looked like he struggled, and it showed at times. So I think it’s a 50/50 fight. Benn has a better chance now than the first time.”
Fury, who famously guided his nephew Tyson Fury to a stunning world title win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, knows the importance of strategy on the biggest stage. His advice to Benn is simple: fight smart.
“You’ve got to box,” Fury said. “It’s called boxing for a reason. If you go in looking to land big shots and take someone’s head off, a good fighter will pick you apart. At this level, you have to box your way in.”
Whether Benn can stick to a disciplined game plan remains to be seen, but with Fury’s blueprint, the rematch could shape up very differently.
