CAF Announces $1 Million Prize for WAFCON 2024 Champions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled an increased prize structure for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), according to Nigeria News 247.
The winner of this year’s tournament will take home $1 million, while the runners-up will receive $500,000. The third-place team will earn $350,000. CAF confirmed that all participating nations will also benefit from revised bonus allocations.
Twelve countries will compete in the tournament, which kicks off this Saturday in Morocco.
Group Stage Breakdown:

Group A: Morocco (hosts), Zambia, Senegal, DR Congo

Group B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Botswana, Algeria

Group C: South Africa (defending champions), Ghana, Mali, Tanzania
The tournament will begin with hosts Morocco facing Zambia in the opening match.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons, the most successful team in WAFCON history with nine titles, will begin their campaign on Sunday against Tunisia in Casablanca. Defending champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana) will open against Ghana next Monday.
The revised prize structure is part of CAF’s ongoing efforts to promote and invest in women’s football across the continent.
