LeBron James and Steph Curry led Team USA to a strong start with an 86-72 victory over Canada in a pre-Olympics exhibition game in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Both NBA superstars, part of a formidable USA basketball roster aiming for a fifth consecutive gold medal at the upcoming Paris Olympics, showcased their skills as international teammates for the first time. Despite an early 11-1 deficit, Curry contributed 12 points and James added seven as Team USA rallied for victory in their final home game before heading to the United Arab Emirates for exhibition matches against Australia and Serbia next week.

Following the win, James, a standout with the Los Angeles Lakers, gathered the team for a huddle, emphasizing their status as favorites for gold in France.

“We know we can improve; we’ve only been together four days,” James reflected. “We had some offensive miscues and turnovers that we can clean up, but our focus should start with defense. If we defend well, we give ourselves a great chance to win every game.”

Curry echoed James’s sentiments, highlighting defense as crucial for their Olympic campaign.

“We can refine our offense and timing, but if we bring that defensive intensity and commitment, we’ll be competitive against any opponent,” Curry affirmed.

James, the NBA’s leading all-time scorer, expressed enjoyment at teaming up with Curry, known for his skills with the Golden State Warriors.

“We’re two guys who just love the game of basketball,” James explained. “It’s enjoyable. We play at a high level but more importantly, we play with passion and respect for the game.”

Curry emphasized the collective effort required to secure another gold medal.

“Our goal is straightforward: win gold, whatever it takes,” Curry emphasized. “It’s about everyone on the court committing to their roles and doing what’s needed for the team’s success, regardless of individual stats or playing time.”
