Atalanta have announced the signing of Nigerian left-footed defender Honest Ovonranwen Ahanor from fellow Serie A club Genoa, marking their third summer acquisition alongside Odilon Kossounou from Bayer Leverkusen and Kamaldeen Sulemana from Southampton.

Born on February 23, 2008, in Aversa, Italy, to Nigerian parents, Ahanor made history last season as the first player born in 2008 to feature in Serie A. At just 16 years old, he made his full top-flight debut for Genoa in a match against Juventus and went on to make six appearances during the campaign.

Atalanta’s official website highlighted the young defender’s background:

“Honest joined Genoa’s youth sector at a young age and, despite his Italian birth, he is eligible to represent Nigeria internationally through his parents.”

Notably, Ahanor has yet to represent Italy at any youth level, leaving the door open for a future call-up by the Nigerian national team.

With the addition of Ahanor, Atalanta continue to bolster their squad with promising talent, following their earlier signings of Kossounou and Sulemana.
