April Brings Stagnation to UK Economy: ONS Data Shows No Growth
In April, the UK economy experienced a standstill, with no growth reported, as per early figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
This halt follows a modest 0.4 per cent increase recorded in March. Economists surveyed by Reuters had predicted this stagnation, attributing it largely to adverse weather conditions, particularly heavy rainfall, which had a dampening effect on retail sales and construction output.
According to the ONS report, April’s precipitation levels were 155 per cent higher than the long-term average. This latest GDP update, released just before the election, underscores the economic challenges facing the nation.
