Dallas Stars lunches Future Stars program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony

For years, the Dallas Stars have been vocal about their commitment to promoting inclusion within their team and community. On Tuesday, they took another significant stride in that direction.

A grand opening ceremony was held at Cedar Springs Boys and Girls Club for their newly renovated gym, which was marked by the cutting of a ribbon. This was followed by an energetic pep rally featuring the Stars team. Additionally, members of the Boys and Girls Club were given the chance to engage in a friendly game of ball hockey with former Stars players.

The team announced that the makeover features brand-new ball hockey gear, a cutting-edge scoreboard, updated paint, and lively decorations. The Dallas Stars spearheaded the endeavor through their Future Stars program, designed to bring hockey to various neighborhoods in the Metroplex by collaborating with Boys and Girls Clubs and nearby schools.

Al Montoya, the Vice President of Cultural Growth and Strategy for the Dallas Stars, emphasized the importance of inclusivity and accessibility when it comes to introducing the game to children.

They are currently focused on broadening the game’s reach in Mexico by actively reaching out to marginalized communities both at home and abroad.

One of the reasons for this success is the partnership with the National Hockey League, which is dedicated to bringing the sport of hockey to a wide range of students.

DeRon Bethea, the Athletics Director at BGCD, expressed immense enthusiasm about introducing street hockey to Club kids who may not have had the opportunity to experience the sport otherwise. Partnering with the Dallas Stars is a great privilege, and we aspire to expand this program to numerous other Clubs in the future.

The Stars expressed their excitement in providing hockey opportunities for our Club children, emphasizing the development of essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, and discipline through sports.
