Kuwait Building Fire Claims Over 35 Lives, Leaves Dozens Injured
The Kuwaiti interior ministry reported that more than 35 individuals lost their lives and dozens sustained injuries in a tragic building fire in an area densely populated with foreign workers on Wednesday.
According to the health ministry, forty-three people were wounded when the fire erupted in a residential building located south of Kuwait City early in the morning.
Major General Eid Al-Owaihan, director of the interior ministry’s General Department of Criminal Evidence, confirmed the incident during a site visit, stating, “Unfortunately, we received a report of a fire at… exactly 6:00 am (0300 GMT) in the Mangaf area. As for the deaths in the building behind me, the number has exceeded 35 so far.”
Owaihan further mentioned that forensic teams had identified three of the deceased individuals.
A source from the General Fire Department revealed that the victims suffocated due to the smoke rising from the fire, which originated on the ground floor of the building.
Interior Minister Sheikh Fahd Al-Yousef, while visiting the scene, announced that the building’s owner had been detained as part of an investigation into potential negligence.
