The South African government has heightened its alert status in response to intelligence indicating a possible plot for a military coup.
During a budget presentation in Parliament on Tuesday, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni revealed that the security cluster is actively overseeing the situation and has enacted measures to prevent any upheaval.
“We have detected a potential threat of a coup d’état,” Ntshavheni stated. “Plans and strategies are in place to address this and ensure the safety of South Africans.”
She reassured both legislators and the public that the situation is manageable, emphasizing that the nation’s security is not currently at imminent risk despite ongoing political unrest.
Ntshavheni confirmed that proactive steps have been taken to lessen the threat and reiterated the government’s dedication to maintaining national stability and upholding democratic principles.
This announcement comes during a time of increased investigations and political instability. Citizens are encouraged to stay calm and report any suspicious behavior to the proper authorities.
