The Dangote Refinery has officially started exporting petrol to international markets, marking a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s oil sector. As one of the world’s largest refineries, the facility is scaling production to meet both domestic demand and global requirements. Founder Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, revealed that between June and July 2025, the refinery exported up to one million tonnes of petrol to various countries, demonstrating its ability to compete on the international stage.

This milestone signals a transformative shift for Nigeria’s economy, which has long been reliant on imported fuel. By producing and exporting refined petroleum products, the Dangote Refinery is expected to reduce import dependency, conserve foreign exchange reserves, and generate substantial revenue for the nation. Industry experts have praised the refinery’s operations, noting its potential to create employment, increase local content, and stimulate related industries such as transport and logistics.

Aliko Dangote expressed confidence in the refinery’s future role in advancing Nigeria’s industrialization and economic diversification. He emphasized the commitment to maintaining high-quality standards to remain competitive globally. With exports already underway, the Dangote Refinery is poised to elevate Nigeria’s position in the global oil market and contribute significantly to national development goals.
