The Sokoto State Government has taken a major step toward modernizing its public transportation network with the launch of 30 new mass transit buses. The initiative, officially unveiled in the state capital, is part of a broader strategy to enhance mobility, particularly for low-income residents and daily commuters.

Speaking at the launch event, which was attended by government officials, transport stakeholders, and community leaders, the state governor highlighted the project as a critical component of the government’s commitment to delivering affordable, safe, and efficient public transport options.

In addition to the new buses, the government introduced a digital e-ticketing system aimed at streamlining fare collection and improving transparency. The system enables passengers to pay for rides using mobile devices or smart cards, minimizing the risk of fraud and facilitating better data collection for transport planning and policy decisions.

Officials noted that integrating technology into the transport system represents a major milestone for the state, signaling its readiness to embrace innovation in public service delivery.

The mass transit initiative forms part of Sokoto’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which includes urban renewal projects and digital transformation efforts. Local residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the improved transport system will reduce commute times, ease congestion, and create new employment opportunities in both the transport and technology sectors.

The state government has pledged to monitor the new system’s performance closely and make necessary adjustments to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the population, while continuing to invest in sustainable and inclusive transport solutions.
