Four Suspects Arrested over Attack on Sokoto Deputy Gov’s Convoy
Security operatives have arrested four individuals following an attack on the convoy of the Sokoto State Deputy Governor, who was returning from a condolence visit in Shagari Local Government Area.
The Deputy Governor had visited Shagari town to sympathize with residents displaced by recent bandit attacks on their communities. However, tensions reportedly escalated during the visit, leading to an attack on his convoy by some angry locals.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 1 p.m. on Thursday when a group of displaced persons blocked the road and vandalized several vehicles in the deputy governor’s entourage.
Troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA were promptly deployed to the scene, clearing the blockade and restoring order.
“Four suspects were arrested at the scene and have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation,” a security source confirmed.
Authorities have since reinforced security in the area to prevent further unrest, and normalcy has been restored.
