Kaduna Court Delivers Verdict:Four internet Fraudsters head to jail.
The convicts, Segun Emmanuel Joseph (a.k.a. Alina Renatas), Aliyu Dominic Daniel (a.k.a. Jojo Snow), Winner Joseph (a.k.a. Williams Scot), and Kenneth Oche Oduh (a.k.a. Robert Ben James), have been sentenced to various jail terms for internet fraud by Justices A. Isiaka and Hauwa’u Buhari of the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
Segun Emmanuel Joseph, Winner Joseph, and Aliyu Dominic Daniel were apprehended during a raid in the Television Garage and Barnawa areas of Kaduna, based on credible intelligence about their fraudulent activities. Kenneth Oche Oduh was arrested in Jos metropolis along with other members of his syndicate.
The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted the convicts on separate one-count charges of impersonation and obtaining by false pretense.
The charge against Segun Joseph stated: “Between January and March 2024, in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, you attempted to commit an offense by falsely presenting yourself as Alina Renatas, a woman living in Germany, to Rana Sultan Ameer and other unsuspecting victims on Facebook, in order to cheat them. This offense is contrary to Section 57 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law of 2017 and punishable under Section 309 of the same law.”
The charge against Oduh read: “In 2022, in Jos, Plateau State, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, you falsely presented yourself as Robert Ben James with a gmail account (robertben374@gmail.com) and, in that assumed character, gained $800 for yourself, knowing this to be false. This offense is contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (2) (b) (iv) of the same Act.”
All convicts pleaded guilty to their respective charges. Prosecution counsel Y.J. Matiyak and M.E. Eimonye then urged the courts to convict and sentence them.
Justice Isiaka sentenced Winner Joseph to two years imprisonment or a fine of N200,000, Segun Joseph to five years imprisonment or a fine of N300,000, and Aliyu Dominic Daniel to three years imprisonment or a fine of N150,000. Justice Buhari sentenced Kenneth Oche Oduh to five years imprisonment or a fine of N500,000.
Additionally, all convicts forfeited their phones, which were used as tools in their crimes, to the federal government.
