Kano Govt Orders Investigation into Killing of Two Students in Bichi
The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the fatal assault of two students at Government Secondary School, Bichi.
The victims, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were reportedly attacked late Sunday night by senior students who allegedly lured them into a hostel and beat them with local metal objects known as “Gwale-Gwale.” The attack was reportedly linked to accusations of involvement in “unnatural offences.”
Two other students, Aliyu M. Nasir and Ibrahim Ibrahim, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Bichi General Hospital.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday and has arrested twelve suspects in connection with the attack.
In a statement from the Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, Dr. Makoda promised that justice would be pursued. Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Muhammad, the commissioner warned students against taking the law into their own hands, urging them to report any concerns to school authorities for proper action.
He also extended the government’s condolences to the families of the deceased.
Additionally, Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, assured the public that all efforts would be made to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.
