The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Gabriel Pius, for allegedly stabbing his elder brother, Abu Simon, to death during a domestic dispute in Idanre, a town in the state.

Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, describing it as a tragic outcome of a family altercation. The case was reported to the police around 8 p.m. on June 27, 2025, by a family acquaintance, Gabriel Michael.

“It is truly heartbreaking to witness a life cut short over a domestic disagreement. Our officers responded swiftly, and the suspect is now in custody as we pursue justice,” Lawal said.

Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Gang

In a related development, the police in Ondo State have dismantled a notorious four-man armed robbery syndicate linked to a string of violent robberies and car thefts across Akure, Owo, Ondo, and surrounding towns.

According to Commissioner Lawal, the Tactical Intelligence and Response Squad apprehended the gang following a robbery in Akure on June 27. Two suspects were arrested outside the state, leading to the capture of two additional accomplices, including a well-known dealer of stolen goods.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the gang is part of a wider criminal network involved in vehicle snatching and illegal trafficking,” the Commissioner said.

Recovered items include a stolen vehicle and several mobile phones. Police say efforts are ongoing to recover more stolen property and apprehend other members of the syndicate, including a suspected arms supplier believed to play a key role in the operation.
