Abia Dismisses Acting Principal of Midwifery School Amid Controversy
Following a protest by students of the Okezie School of Midwifery Abiriba in Abia State, the state government has dismissed the former acting principal, Mrs. Ogbonna Chituru Adiele.
The students had protested against allegations of fund embezzlement, misuse of the SUG ECG machine, and the employment of ghost workers for financial gain. The students openly voiced their concerns on the school premises, questioning Mrs. Adiele’s conduct and management.
In a protest letter titled “Petition for the Removal of the Head of our School, Acting Principal, Mrs. Ogbonna Chituru Adiele,” the Student Union Government urged the Abia State Commissioner for Health to investigate these allegations. The students highlighted grievances such as her prolonged absence, neglect of duties, poor academic management, and usurpation of responsibilities designated to other staff members.
The protest letter, signed by SUG President Comrade Uche Maximus Chibuikem and General Secretary Immaculata Anyanwu, called for the acting principal’s removal to ensure a fair educational environment. They also requested updates on the government’s actions to address their concerns.
When contacted, Mrs. Adiele declined to comment, stating she was en route to Umuahia.
Acting promptly on the protest and the students’ petition, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, suspended Mrs. Adiele and appointed Mrs. Okorie Comfort James as the new head of the school to ensure its smooth operation.
