Mixed reactions have emerged following the death of Modupe Ayandare, a 500-level Agronomy student at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. Ayandare was found dead off-campus on Monday, allegedly having hanged herself around 4 a.m. near the church where she attended a vigil.

Some Nigerians have questioned the circumstances of her death, suggesting that the assumption of suicide may not be accurate. Activist Oluwaseun Ogunmola has called on the state government to investigate the case thoroughly to ensure justice is served. Ogunmola also urged the state police command to actively uncover the truth behind the incident.

“This isn’t the first time an AAUA undergraduate has been declared dead without clear circumstances,” Ogunmola stated. “The reports and videos make the suicide claim seem suspicious. We urge the state government to help her loved ones find justice.”

The Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Olaogbebikan Noble, also expressed doubts about the suicide narrative, describing the circumstances as mysterious and awaiting the outcome of the police investigation. Noble noted, “We visited the spot and found her kneeling with a rope around her neck. The rope wasn’t tied firmly, raising questions about the suicide claim. The case is now with the State Criminal Investigation Department.”
