Breaking: Ongoing WAEC Exams Unaffected by Monday Nationwide Strike, Confirms Controller
West Africa Examinations Council Assures Uninterrupted Exams Amidst Nationwide Strike
Mrs. T.A.Y. Lawson, the Branch Controller for Ekiti State at the West Africa Examinations Council, has assured that the nationwide strike slated to begin on Monday will not disrupt examinations in the state and nationwide.
In a letter titled “Notice of Commencement of Indefinite Strike by NLC and TUC,” with reference number EK/BC/SC/EXAM/07/Vol.1/89 issued late Friday, she alerted Principals and school heads in Ekiti State.
The examination timetable for Nigeria commenced on Tuesday, April 30, and will conclude on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Mrs. Lawson emphasized that the WASSCE SC 2024 will proceed as scheduled despite the strike notice. While acknowledging the concerns of the unions and the public, she stressed that students should not be disadvantaged by missing the ongoing exams.
Therefore, WAEC will conduct the exams as planned, urging stakeholders to make adequate arrangements for the candidates. The organized labor, including the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, announced the strike on Friday due to a breakdown in negotiations on the proposed new minimum wage.
