Security operatives at Bayero University Kano (BUK) have arrested two individuals posing as lecturers and selling books to unsuspecting first-year students.

This was reported in a special bulletin signed by the Acting Registrar of the university, Bala G. Abdullahi. The bulletin identified the suspects as Mr. David Iluebe and Mr. Chike E. Eke, from Edo and Delta states respectively. The two entered a lecture hall in the Faculty of Engineering.

They presented themselves as lecturers and introduced a set of four textbooks, claiming they were mandatory for Continuous Assessment (C.A.) in subjects like English, Statistics, and Nigerian People and Culture. They warned students that failure to purchase the books would result in failing their courses.

Concerned about meeting course requirements, the students bought the books. However, suspicion arose, and the university security arrested the suspects after a complaint was lodged.

The Acting Registrar stated that the duo now faces charges of criminal trespass, impersonation, and fraud. The fake lecturers admitted to the accusations, explaining that they turned to this scheme due to unemployment. They also revealed that this was their second attempt, having previously operated at Kano State Polytechnic earlier this year.
