“Igbinedion University has produced over 3,000 lawyers since its inception,” says Ezemonye.
During a recent valedictory ceremony for the 2023/2024 graduating law students of the Oba Erediauwa College of Law at Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) in Edo State, Vice Chancellor Professor Lawrence Ezemonye revealed that the institution has produced over 3,000 law graduates since its inception. Some of these graduates have gone on to become Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), achieving distinction in their careers.
The Vice Chancellor’s address, delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raphael Adeghe, highlighted the significant contributions of Igbinedion University, Nigeria’s first private university, to the country’s higher education landscape. Professor Ezemonye emphasized the university’s consistent excellence, noting that its law graduates have performed impressively at the Nigerian Law School. Last year, the university’s law graduates achieved three First Class degrees, along with numerous Second Class Upper degrees at the Law School.
In his remarks to the graduating class, Professor Ezemonye encouraged the students to take the knowledge and skills acquired at the university into their future endeavors, particularly as they prepare for the Nigerian Law School. He urged them to aim high and follow in the footsteps of their successful predecessors, who have distinguished themselves in various fields.
The Oba Erediauwa College of Law, a cornerstone of Igbinedion University since its founding in 1999, has maintained a strong reputation for academic excellence. This reputation is reflected in the success of its graduates, many of whom have excelled in their professions, including reaching the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
At the event, Professor Jomoh Nureni Soladoye, a distinguished legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, delivered a lecture titled “The Role of Youths in Democratic Governance in Developing Countries.” He encouraged the young graduates to take on leadership roles to promote good governance in Nigeria.
