Ilesa Grammar School Alumni celebrate 50th Reunion with Computer Lab Donation to their Alma Mater
To celebrate their 50th reunion, the 1974 class of Ilesa Grammar School Old Students’ Association recently donated a state-of-the-art computer laboratory to their alma mater. The donation includes 25 desktop computers, internet access, essential software, and a generator.
These alumni, who attended the school from 1970 to 1974, established the ‘Club ’74’ in December 2016 at the University of Ibadan’s Vice Chancellor’s lodge. Now successful professionals, professors, media leaders, and industry heads, they felt compelled to give back to the institution that shaped their early lives.
At the donation event held at the Old Ilesa Grammar School Hall in Osun State, President Chief Shola Oshunkeye highlighted the sector’s neglect over the years and called for better educational funding. He criticized the current state of education, with some schools suffering from poor infrastructure and inadequate resources, and emphasized that underfunding results in poorly prepared graduates.
Prof. Idowu Olayinka, the chairman of the organizing committee and former Vice-Chancellor of UI, reinforced the need for increased investment in education.
In his lecture, Prof. Foluso Okunmadewa, a retired World Bank Lead Specialist, praised the association’s efforts to equip future generations with necessary tools. He echoed calls for more funding from all sectors of society, including government, private entities, and civil society.
National President Dr. Obi Daramola expressed gratitude to the 1974 class and assured that the new facilities would be well utilized. Both senior school principal Mr. Samuel Egunjobi and junior school principal Mrs. Temilade Mohammed expressed their appreciation for the generous donation.
