The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has approved the withdrawal of 273 students for poor academic performance and expelled six others for involvement in various forms of examination malpractice.

The decision was announced in a statement released on Monday by the Rector and Chairman of the Academic Board, Dr. Salisu Usman, following the board’s 120th meeting, which reviewed the first semester results for the 2024/2025 academic session.

According to Dr. Usman, the students failed to meet the institution’s minimum academic standards despite the polytechnic’s continued investment in providing a conducive and supportive learning environment.

“The affected students span 20 departments and 42 academic programmes. This action is necessary to uphold the integrity and quality of the institution’s academic system,” he said.

Expulsions for Examination Malpractice

In addition to the mass withdrawals, six students were expelled after being found guilty of serious examination misconduct. The offences included impersonation and the use of unauthorized materials during examinations.

Dr. Usman noted that two of the expelled students were from the Business Administration and Accountancy departments, while the other four were from the Mass Communication department.

“The Central Examination Misconduct Committee, chaired by Dr. Grace Ehimony, investigated the allegations and found the students culpable. Based on the committee’s recommendation, the board approved their expulsion,” the rector said.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

Dr. Usman reiterated the polytechnic’s zero-tolerance policy on academic indiscipline and emphasized the importance of integrity in scholarship. He praised board members for their commitment to upholding academic excellence.
