LASU’s 27th Convocation: 153 Graduates Bag First-Class Honors

During a press briefing in Lagos, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ojo, revealed that the institution’s 27th convocation would see 153 students graduate with First Class honors. The convocation, spanning from May 30 to June 6, features various events.

Of the 8,670 undergraduates graduating, Olatunji-Bello detailed that 3,029 achieved Second Class Upper, 715 Second Class Lower, 228 Pass, and 195 received non-classified degrees. Additionally, among the 2,164 postgraduate students graduating, there are 375 postgraduate diplomas, 962 academic masters, 672 professional masters, 89 Doctor of Philosophy, and 66 professional doctoral degrees.

Highlighting exceptional achievements, she named Olaniyi Olawale as the best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.79 in Accounting Education and Olaitan Damilola with a CGPA of 4.98 in Educational Management for Masters.

Regarding diploma students, Olatunji-Bello noted distinctions, upper credits, lower credits, and one pass among the 554 graduates. She emphasized the conducive academic environment fostering personal growth and highlighted alumni success stories.

She proudly mentioned that 10 Faculty of Law alumni secured first-class honors in the Nigerian Law School bar exam, while 10 out of 13 newly-appointed Lagos State High Court judges are also alumni. Additionally, Dr. Aminat Ige-Ariyibi, an alumna from the Department of Mathematics, won the University of Lagos’ overall best PhD thesis award for the 2022/2023 academic session.
