Non-constitution of Governing Council Impeding Promotions and Appointments – MOUAU Vice Chancellor
The Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, has expressed concern over the detrimental impact of the university operating without a governing council.
During an event at the Senator Pius Anyim auditorium in Umudike, where Dr. Obasi Igwe Oscar was revalidated as the Alumni representative on the governing council, Professor Iwe highlighted the negative effects of the absence of a governing council on the university’s operations. He noted that the lack of a council has hindered appointments, promotions, and other developmental activities.
The Vice Chancellor praised the contributions of the Obasi-led MOUAU Alumni to the university’s progress, noting that the current council representatives would complete their four-year tenure following the revalidation.
Dr. Obasi Igwe Oscar’s revalidation was unanimously approved by graduates and academic staff, with a motion moved by Dr. Ujah Promise and Professor Onwuchekwa Raphael Iheke. In his response, Dr. Oscar thanked the university for their confidence in him and promised not to disappoint them. He also commended Professor Iwe for his academic leadership and support to the Alumni body, emphasizing the Alumni’s role as a key stakeholder in the university system. The Alumni body is contributing by building a 1,000-seater lecture theatre to enhance teaching and learning.
