SSANU KWASU Chapter Joins Nationwide Protest Over Unimproved Welfare Conditions
Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at Kwara State University, Malete, joined colleagues nationwide on Thursday in a peaceful protest demanding improved welfare conditions.
During the demonstration, the branch Chairman, Comrade Abdulsalam Jimoh Kannike, explained that the protest was in line with directives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU.
He warned that the workers’ patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
Highlighting their key demands, Comrade Kannike called for the full implementation of the 2009 Federal Government agreement, payment of outstanding wages and allowances, and a stop to academic staff taking over non-teaching duties meant for senior staff.
While expressing gratitude to the KWASU management for maintaining a peaceful environment, Kannike emphasized that the protest was not targeted at the university but was part of a broader nationwide effort to secure fairness and equity for all workers.
The protest concluded peacefully, with members chanting solidarity songs and reaffirming their commitment to the ongoing fight for workers’ rights.
