Trending certificate found at ‘Suya’ spot invalid, says LASU
The Lagos State University management has finally addressed the issue of a certificate discovered at a suya spot in the state.
They clarified that the certificate was deemed invalid due to a spelling error in the bearer’s name. The university confirmed that the certificate was indeed real but had been invalidated back in 2013 because of a mistake in the surname, which was written as ABISOYE instead of ABIOYE.
After retrieving the certificate in 2018, the university emphasized that it had been officially invalidated and provided further details on the matter.
LASU confirmed that a new certificate with the correct surname was issued to the graduate on September 30, 2014. The university’s policy dictates that the invalidated certificate should have been destroyed after re-issuance, but it was inadvertently left in a public area due to an oversight.
Improper screening of office waste papers prior to disposal led to the invalidated certificate being exposed in the public space.
The incident involving the engineering graduate’s certificate going viral occurred when a man tried to contact the owner after it was mistakenly used in a transaction involving soya beans.
The certificate belongs to Abisoye Azeez Oluwaseun, who graduated with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Chemical and Polymer Engineering from LASU.
