Actor Nosa Rex denies claim that he used Junior Pope’s death for skit
Actor Nosa Rex of Nollywood fame has refuted actress Ruby Orjiakor’s allegation that he exploited Junior Pope’s boating accident for comedic purposes.
Pope tragically lost his life on April 10 due to a boating incident on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta state. His final resting place was in Nsukka, Igbo-Etiti LGA in Enugu state on May 17.
Recently, a video surfaced of an actor named Rex being instructed by a director to dive into a river without any safety gear during a film shoot. The footage showed the actor seemingly challenging the director’s request to retrieve a treasure from the river.
Rex contended that the scene was not part of the script, but was subsequently seen struggling for survival after plunging into the water.
The performance drew backlash towards Rex, with Orjiakor accusing him of using it to mock Pope’s death. She also accused Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie Pope was meant to star in, of showing no remorse for his passing.
I have come to offer prayers specifically for you, Super Stat (Akpa Swag). Your legacy will always be remembered. It saddens me to see that Baba Rex, someone you trusted, is now using your experiences as entertainment.
People are only focused on their own interests, and no one seems to care about the impact on others. If only you had listened to my advice.
Additionally, @adanmaluke is not showing remorse for what happened to you and others; instead, she is spreading false information about you begging her for job opportunities. This just goes to show how cruel the world can be. May all the departed souls rest in peace through the mercy of Christ.
In response to Orjiakor’s statement, Rex explained that the purpose of making the video was to convey a positive message in order to avoid future errors.
Specifically for genuine fans and true friends. Upon arriving on set, I immediately informed the director that I would not enter any body of water due to personal reasons, as he mentioned on his Instagram account. Despite the script calling for it, the director agreed to make adjustments.
Reflecting on this, I pondered what if I were a newcomer with no voice? Would I be obligated to comply and take the plunge? This led me to request creative freedom from the director in order to demonstrate that one can decline risky tasks on set.
Thankfully, my understanding director supported this decision. My sole intention was never to ridicule my departed friend; rather, it was always about promoting a positive message to prevent future errors.
Let’s work together towards enhancing Nollywood’s standards. A heartfelt thank you goes out to my true supporters and friends who interpreted the content positively.
