Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has opened up about facing personal struggles, following backlash over comments about his fans.

The controversy arose after Burna Boy said he doesn’t “beg anyone” to be his fan and added that he prefers wealthy supporters. The remarks sparked widespread criticism, with some interpreting them as dismissive of his fanbase.

Responding on his Instagram story, the ‘Last Last’ singer clarified that his comment was meant as a joke and was taken out of context. He also revealed that he is dealing with private battles and requested that the public give him space.

Burna Boy further spoke out against insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria, Congo, and Sudan, urging attention to these crises.

“I was joking around with my band about something else, not this situation, and y’all have spun it as usual saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans,’” he wrote.

He added: “If you hate me so much, either kill me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles and I never come out here to look for pity or help. I love who loves me and respect who respects me. Free Sudan, free Congo, free Nigeria.”
