Charly Boy Dismisses Opposition Coalition Ahead of 2027, Calls It a Quest for Power
Veteran musician and activist Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has criticized the newly formed opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, calling it a recycled alliance driven by self-interest.
The coalition, reportedly made up of prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), and disaffected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the upcoming election. Former Senate President David Mark is said to be leading the group.
While the move has sparked reactions across the country—with some viewing it as a political revival—others remain doubtful of the coalition’s intentions. One such skeptic is Charly Boy, who expressed his disapproval in a post on his official Facebook page Thursday night.
“These are the same people that sank this country now singing redemption songs,” he wrote. “It’s not about Nigeria—it’s about their selfish desire for power. Just old wolves in new agbada.”
Charly Boy warned Nigerians not to mistake political realignments for genuine progress.
“Coalitions are forming, but let’s not pretend that every alliance is progress,” he said. “Are they fighting for you, or just to sit where their enemies once sat? Have they really changed, or are they simply out of power?”
Echoing similar sentiments expressed earlier by activist Omoyele Sowore, Charly Boy concluded by urging voters to demand more than recycled leadership.
“We don’t just need new names. We need new values, new visions, and people with the guts to live by them. 2027 is not about revenge—it’s about rescue,” he added.
