#EndSARS: DJ Switch Celebrates Victory Following ECOWAS Court Verdict
Obianuju Udeh, widely known as DJ Switch, celebrated the recent judgment of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice on the contentious #EndSARS protests as a significant victory.
DJ Switch expressed confidence that the evidence and facts presented to the court would be compelling, despite facing discouragement along the way. The ECOWAS court had ruled that the Nigerian government should compensate DJ Switch, Perpetual Kamsi, and Dabiraoluwa Adeyinka with N2 million each for the violation of their rights during the protests.
Reflecting on the emotional and life-changing experiences they endured, DJ Switch acknowledged the impact of the ECOWAS court’s verdict. In a message shared on her social media handle, she stated, “#ENDSARS: After a three-year battle with the Nigerian government in the ECOWAS court, justice was finally served yesterday! We emerged victorious!”
She highlighted the challenges faced during the legal process, including delays and attempts by the Nigerian government to hinder proceedings. Despite these obstacles, DJ Switch remained resolute, supported by her legal team who presented their case diligently.
“I cannot fully convey the emotional trauma and upheavals we have endured,” DJ Switch wrote. “But with professional support, we have navigated through it, and this verdict has brought profound relief.”
She expressed gratitude to her legal team and the judges for their commitment to justice. DJ Switch emphasized the significance of the court’s decision in holding the Nigerian government accountable for the events of October 20, 2020, during which serious allegations were raised.
“Sitting in court and hearing the judges’ verdict indicting the Nigerian government for their actions on that fateful day was one of the best moments since that horrific incident,” she added. “This legal vindication marks a pivotal moment. Now, I can focus on other passions and pursuits, hopeful for the future.”
Addressing critics, DJ Switch asserted the historical significance of the court’s ruling in exposing the truth. She concluded, “With no room for corruption to thrive, justice prevails. The record now stands clear on who the true perpetrators were.”
