Halima Abubakar has been fined N10 million by the court for defamation against Apostle Suleman.
Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has been fined N10 million for posting defamatory statements about Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
A Federal Capital Territory High Court issued the order on Monday, instructing the Deadly Plot actress to pay the amount as damages to the cleric.
The judgement, based on a certified true copy, revealed that Apostle Suleman accused Abubakar of making derogatory comments about him on her Instagram page, which were subsequently republished by various blogs and newspapers.
Justice Enobie Obanor, in the judgement, noted that Abubakar had the opportunity to defend herself but failed to do so.
The judgement awarded N10,000,000 as aggravated and exemplary damages for the libel contained in Abubakar’s Instagram posts and subsequently published in multiple blogs.
