“I Brought the Wizkid Vibe to Music Comedy” – Kenny Blaq
Popular comedian Kenny Blaq has clarified that, contrary to popular belief, he did not pioneer music comedy in Nigeria.
He credited the late Gbenga Adeboye, CD John, and others for paving the way for the genre in the country.
However, he noted that he introduced “the Wizkid and Davido vibe” to music comedy.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Blaq explained, “Because of the way I performed music comedy, many people think I introduced the genre to Nigeria. Some believe I started music comedy as a genre.
“But there were music comedians before me, like the late Gbenga Adeboye, Fung Otong, MC Miracle, Maleke, and the late CD John. What set me apart was my approach.
“I brought the Wizkid and Davido vibe into it, and I was able to incorporate different music genres into my comedy.
“Earlier music comedians focused on specific styles, either Igbo or Yoruba music.
“But I was doing mashups, covers, telling stories, and maintaining consistency.
“I didn’t start music comedy, but I can say I’m one of those who have helped make it strong in this part of the world.”
