‘I spend N400m on orphanages annually’, says Davido
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, warmly welcomed Afrobeat sensation David Adeleke, also known as Davido, during a visit at the Senate.
Akpabio expressed his joy at the visit and praised Davido for his exceptional performances that have brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage.
You have truly represented us well internationally, Akpabio commended Davido, who was accompanied by two of his relatives – Tunji Adeleke, son of the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and Folasade Adeleke, daughter of Osun State governor Senator Ademola Adeleke.
During a recent visit, Afro pop star Davido met with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who expressed full support for the entertainment industry.
Akpabio emphasized the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and resisting negative influences. He highlighted the inclusive nature of his administration, working collaboratively across party lines for the greater good of Nigeria, regardless of political affiliations.
Ultimately, he stressed that their shared goal should be the advancement and prosperity of the country that has shown them immense love.
This nation boasts an unparalleled population in Africa, with over 240 million individuals residing in Nigeria. I urge you to uphold your role as a distinguished representative of our country.
Refrain from being lured into the realm of politics and instead, persist in excelling in the entertainment sector. Akpabio emphasized the significance of talent and divine gifts, assuring that no one can diminish these qualities.
The political sphere is committed to endorsing the industry and nurturing talented individuals such as yourself. Success can be achieved through perseverance and supplication.
Please strive to uphold high ethical standards and resist negative influences in the entertainment industry. The challenges faced by some black stars in America are regrettable.
Remember that success in this field is like climbing a pyramid – starting from the bottom and working your way up. Once you reach the top, focus on maintaining your position.
Just like walking on a tightrope, it’s essential to balance competing priorities. Our hope is that God will continue to bless you with wisdom and talent so you can continue to bring pride to Nigeria.
Davido also shared with the Senate President his Foundation’s work supporting orphanages and his upcoming album release scheduled for June or July.
During their conversation, Davido emphasized the crucial role of private sector involvement in promoting social welfare, underscoring that government initiatives alone are insufficient to meet the needs of orphaned and abandoned children.
He detailed his yearly contributions to orphanages, which encompass essential provisions such as food, clothing, education, and healthcare to ensure comprehensive care for the children.
Personally, I also contribute through my Foundation by allocating N300 million to N400 million annually towards orphanages as part of my commitment to supporting society.
Additionally, Davido expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and mentioned an upcoming album release scheduled for June or July.
Akpabio, the Senate President, praised Davido for his commitment and encouraged other famous figures and affluent individuals to emulate his actions.
He emphasized that philanthropic endeavors not only enhance government efforts but also have a profound impact on enhancing the well-being of underprivileged Nigerians.
Akpabio further guaranteed Davido the Senate’s backing in formulating policies that promote and streamline private donations towards societal welfare.
