Ned Nwoko Says Regina Daniels’ Mother Brought Her to Him, Denies Chasing Her
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has insisted that he never pursued his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, for marriage.
The senator made the statement while responding to the controversy surrounding his six-year marriage to Daniels, which has attracted widespread criticism.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports that two weeks ago, Regina Daniels accused Nwoko of domestic violence and stated that she was no longer interested in continuing the marriage. In response, the senator alleged that Regina was struggling with substance abuse and insisted she should attend a rehabilitation center.
The public exchange sparked outrage, with many Nigerians, including celebrities, condemning Senator Nwoko for allegedly marrying Daniels when she was 17 and calling for his resignation from the Senate.
In a statement released through his Communication and Technical Action Team and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nwoko denied marrying Regina at 17, asserting that her mother, Rita Daniels, had brought her to him for marriage.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born on October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she married at 19, not 17. The public witnessed her family giving her away in marriage,” the senator stated.
He added, “There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her for marriage.”
