P-Square: Mr P accuses Rudeboy of disrespecting him, his talent, and wife in open letter
Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, a former member of the defunct P-Square duo, has penned an open letter to his brother Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, following a recent fallout that led to their second split.
NIGERIA NEWS 24/7 recalls that the P-Square group, consisting of the twin brothers, initially split in 2016 but reconciled in 2021. However, last month, Rudeboy confirmed in an interview that the group had parted ways again, though he didn’t disclose the reasons.
During the interview, Rudeboy claimed that the group’s success was largely due to his efforts, stating that he was responsible for writing most of their hit songs.
In response, Mr P took to his verified Facebook page on Monday to express his frustration, accusing Rudeboy of disrespecting his talent, family, and wife.
**Full Letter:**
“My dear brother Paul,
As I’ve told you many times before, I’m not in competition with you or anyone else. However, it hurts to see you give multiple interviews where you consistently discredit my contributions to the group we both created and built together. In your recent interviews, you claimed to have written and sung 99% of all P-SQUARE songs and criticized me by saying that our song with TI, ‘Ejeajo,’ which I wrote, was a failure. You even went as far as using YouTube views to belittle me.
You never acknowledged other successful songs like ‘Get-Squared,’ ‘Bizzy Body,’ ‘Personally,’ ‘Roll It,’ ‘Temptation,’ ‘Alingo,’ ‘More than a Friend,’ ‘Shekini,’ ‘Say Your Love,’ ‘Gimme Dat,’ ‘Senorita,’ ‘IGBEdu,’ and a few others. Were these also failures?
Whenever I’ve spoken about P-SQUARE in interviews, I’ve always used ‘we’ and ‘us’ because I saw us as a team. But when you speak, it’s always ‘I’ and ‘me,’ even when I’m standing right next to you. It’s as if I never existed.
Neither of us is the most talented artist in the world, but you fail to understand that God gave us this talent and even granted us a second chance after our first breakup. Instead, you’ve turned Africa’s most awarded and decorated music group into a laughingstock once again.
One thing you need to understand is that the fans didn’t fall in love with P-SQUARE because of who sang or danced the most. What made us special was the magic that came from our combined effort—us two! P-SQUARE was a force, and the fans loved us for our uniqueness and unity.
I’ve always praised your songwriting ability in our interviews and anyone who has written a song for us or for me as Mr P. But instead of showing gratitude for my kind words, you seem to enjoy rubbing it in my face, forgetting that it is by God’s grace that we’ve come this far.
Rather than joining forces with me to reclaim our number one spot in the music industry, you chose to team up with Jude to claim the top spot in the P-SQUARE group, always looking for ways to marginalize and humiliate me.
You always claim to be P-SQUARE’s songwriter, composer, producer, singer, backup vocalist, video director, band, promoter, manager, and even choreographer. You are the Author and Finisher of P-SQUARE! In fact, I give you 100% credit for everything instead of the 99% you claim.
I blame myself for not responding to your claims on Twitter in April 2015 that you wrote and sang all of P-SQUARE’s songs. I didn’t respond to these false claims for the sake of peace, as advised by family and friends, and now I am paying dearly for it.
So, let me ask you, my brother: Is Rudeboy or Mr P bigger and more successful than P-SQUARE today? Are we individually selling out arenas and stadiums like we used to as P-SQUARE? Are we topping world music charts with our solo songs?
Do we command crowds and entertain massive audiences like we did as P-SQUARE?
I often wonder, what do you truly gain by constantly disrespecting and belittling me? You’ve disrespected my wife, my family, my talent, and my ideas, and you even sided with Jude when he was clearly trying to oppress me.
Now, it feels like you’ve taken it even further by trying so hard to turn the fans against me, making them believe I’m jealous of you.
You’ve done everything to make the fans hate me, but guess what? They will never hate me; instead, they will hate us both because we’ve disappointed and failed them.
I hope you’re happy now. I genuinely wish you nothing but the best, bro! As for those who believe these lies and false narratives and leave negative comments on my page, I understand because you’ve fed them the wrong narrative for a long time. Please allow me to focus on my music in peace.
As for the EFCC matter, I will address it before the end of today. Stay tuned! Peace.”
