“‘People Die Every Day’ – Seun Egbegbe Shares Harrowing Prison Experience”
Nigerian filmmaker and producer Seun Egbegbe has opened up about his harrowing experience during his time in prison.
In a recent interview on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast with actress Biola Adebayo, Egbegbe shared that he prayed fervently for survival throughout his incarceration. He expressed deep gratitude to God for preserving his life, highlighting the grim reality that many inmates die daily in prison.
“People died every day in that prison. It is not a good place. I told God that if You truly exist, then I must leave here alive,” he said.
He advised others to be thankful if they survive such an ordeal, recognizing it as a second chance at life. He also described the “welcome cell” for new prisoners, where out of 20 new arrivals, at least two would be found dead by morning.
NIGERIA NEWS 247 recalls that Seun Egbegbe was remanded in February 2017 after being accused of defrauding 40 Bureau De Change operators by obtaining money under false pretenses to exchange large sums of naira into foreign currencies. He was charged with fraud involving N39,098,100, $90,000, and £12,550. Although the court granted him N5 million bail, he was unable to meet the conditions and remained in custody until he was acquitted in 2022 after spending five years and eight months in prison.
