Senate Chamber Chaos: Lawmakers Clash Over Seating Arrangement
Rowdy Scenes in Senate as Senators Clash Over Seating Arrangements
Tensions flared in the Senate chamber on Tuesday as three senators engaged in a heated debate regarding their seating arrangements.
Senators Danjuma Goje from Gombe Central and Sahabi Yau from Zamfara North expressed dissatisfaction with the seats assigned to them, raising their concerns with Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.
Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, chairs the Senate Services Committee responsible for seating arrangements.
According to the Senate’s standing rules, senators are expected to sit according to their rank.
The dispute arose during Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s welcome address when Goje and Yau, seated in the second row on the right side of the aisle, indicated their dissatisfaction with their assigned seats.
Both senators argued that they should have been allocated seats in the front row on the extreme right, opposite the majority leader and the deputy senate president.
The Senate is utilizing its recently refurbished chamber, which underwent renovations over the past two years.
