Bauchi State Govt Establishes Committee to Address Escalating Cholera Cases and Fatalities

The Bauchi State Government has established a Cholera Steering and Technical Committee to coordinate emergency responses and develop long-term strategies to combat the recent cholera outbreak that has claimed numerous lives across the state.

At the committee’s inauguration in Bauchi, Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau described cholera as a serious public health threat requiring immediate and focused action.

He explained that the committee’s role will be to enhance disease surveillance, ensure early detection of cases, and respond swiftly to contain the spread and save lives. “Cholera outbreaks can be prevented if timely action is taken, with collective effort to improve water quality, sanitation, and hygiene,” Jatau stressed.

The deputy governor noted that committee members were selected for their expertise and called on them to approach their responsibilities with dedication. He also assured health partners of the government’s full support to facilitate the committee’s success.

Dr. Sani Dambam, the Commissioner for Health and chairman of the technical committee, reaffirmed the commitment of all members to work collaboratively to fulfill their shared mandate.
