Community Leader Raises Alarm Over Occupation of Villages by Suspected Fulani Militants in Plateau
A prominent community leader in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Da Yohana Margif—Waziri of Mushere—has raised the alarm over the reported occupation of seven villages in the Mushere Chiefdom by suspected Fulani militants.
In a statement issued on Friday, Da Margif claimed that the villages—Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif—have been taken over by the attackers after repeated assaults that led to the displacement of thousands of residents and the deaths of several community members.
According to him, the affected communities have been under persistent attacks for more than three months, forcing residents to flee to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps or seek shelter in the wilderness.
“The Fulani terrorists have set up tents in our lands, grazing their cattle openly on our farmlands, and have even gone as far as renaming our villages with Fulani names,” Da Margif alleged. “They carry weapons openly and have taken control of our land and livestock.”
He decried the worsening humanitarian situation, saying that thousands of displaced persons, including women and children, are now living in extremely harsh conditions, unable to return to their farms during the crucial planting season.
The community leader appealed to both the Plateau State Government and federal security agencies to intervene urgently. He called for the identification and removal of the armed groups from the occupied villages, urging that displaced persons be allowed to safely return to their ancestral homes.
“With the attackers’ identities known, the government must act swiftly and decisively. Our people deserve protection, justice, and the right to live in peace on their land,” he said.
As of the time of reporting, no official response had been issued by government or security officials regarding the allegations.
