In the early hours of Sunday, suspected armed assailants attacked a cattle tent in Wumat, Tarangol District, Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.

  • The attackers killed five cows and abducted two young boys, Shafiu Nuhu and Abba Nuhu, sons of herder Nuhu Ibrahim.

  • The incident was confirmed by the Ardo (Fulani leader) of the district, who reported that the attackers stormed the makeshift settlement, slaughtered livestock, kidnapped the children, and escaped.

  • Fulani elders have raised alarms over the escalating violence targeting their communities, calling for urgent intervention to rescue the children and prevent further bloodshed.

  • Security agencies have visited the scene and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

Plateau State continues to grapple with widespread violence largely driven by farmer-herder conflicts. Herders have frequently complained that attacks on their communities are underreported, which often triggers retaliatory violence in the absence of swift and fair government response.
