Governor Mutfwang Labels Ongoing Killings in Plateau as Genocide, Vows Justice for Victims
Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has condemned the repeated attacks and killings in the state, describing them as acts of genocide—not farmer-herder clashes as often portrayed.
The governor made this declaration during a visit on Wednesday to Jebbu Binde village in the Ta-Hoss District of Riyom Local Government Area, where suspected Fulani militias launched a deadly attack on Monday. Over 30 people were reportedly killed in the assault, and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Speaking to survivors and grieving families, Governor Mutfwang expressed outrage over the brutal killings and pledged that his administration would pursue justice for the victims.
“This is not a farmer-herder conflict. This is terrorism; this is genocide, plain and simple,” he said. “I assure you we will escalate this matter to the highest level until the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.”
Mutfwang assured residents that the state government would not abandon them in their time of grief and reaffirmed his commitment to securing lives and property across Plateau.
To this end, he announced plans to establish a committee to comprehensively review the state’s security framework and ensure that security agencies are held accountable in the discharge of their duties.
“Let me promise you, by the grace of God, Riyom will not fall,” the governor declared. “We will use every resource at our disposal to stop this genocide. We cannot continue like this. These attackers are not spirits—real people committed these atrocities and disappeared without consequences.”
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that his administration is determined to put an end to the cycle of violence being perpetrated by non-state actors and called for a united front in the fight for peace and justice in Plateau State.
