The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has expressed his intention to ascend to the position of Olubadan, attributing his aspirations to divine favor.

In a recent appearance on ‘Agbami Oselu,’ a radio show on Fresh FM in Ibadan, Ladoja, the most senior High Chief and next in line for the Olubadan role, conveyed his gratitude for God’s blessings. He also reaffirmed his commitment to becoming a beaded crown monarch, as outlined in the revised Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration.

Ladoja explained that he has faced significant pressure from both Ibadan indigenes and outsiders to accept the beaded crown, which would facilitate his future ascension to the throne.

He stated in Yoruba, “By the grace of God, I will become Olubadan. God has been merciful to me, and my health has remained stable. Anyone destined by God to become Olubadan will do so, despite any obstacles. I am committed to fulfilling the wishes of the people of Ibadan. It is a tough decision, but the voice of the people is indeed the voice of God.”

This declaration comes amid ongoing tensions regarding the revised Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration. The new amendment, enacted by the Oyo State government under Governor Seyi Makinde, modifies Section 4 of the 1957 declaration. The amendment changes the requirement from “the most Senior (High) Chief in that Line” to “the most Senior Beaded Crown Oba in that Line.”

This revision is seen as a significant development in the ongoing discussions about the Olubadan succession process.
