22 Dead, Others Injured in Niger Road Crash Involving Trailer

At least 22 people have lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident involving a trailer along the Lapai–Lambata highway in Niger State.

The crash occurred in the early hours of Monday at approximately 3:00 a.m., according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Niger State, Aishat Saadu, said the trailer was transporting both passengers and cattle from Kano to Lagos when the accident happened.

“It was a lone crash involving a truck,” Saadu stated. “A total of 42 people were involved. Sadly, 22 were confirmed dead while 20 others sustained various degrees of injuries during the rescue operation.”

Eyewitness accounts indicate that many of the passengers on board were from Zamfara State and were reportedly travelling for commercial purposes.

The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Lambata for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in Suleja.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the cause of the accident, but investigations are ongoing.
