A large group of bandits launched a brutal assault on Zurak village in Bashar District of Wase local government area in Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of over 40 individuals, including members of the vigilante group.

Witnesses from the community stated that the attack took place at approximately 5:00 pm on a Monday while residents were engaged in their daily routines.

The inhabitants were unable to promptly report the incident due to the area’s unreliable communication network. Sahpi i Sambo, a local youth leader, corroborated the event to Nigeria News 247, stating that armed bandits on motorcycles, two per bike, arrived in the community wielding advanced weapons and began firing indiscriminately.

He disclosed that over 40 individuals lost their lives and many others sustained injuries. Fleeing for safety, villagers sought refuge in nearby communities as security forces had yet to reach the area by yesterday.

Describing it as a deadly situation, Sambo emphasized the severity of the attack. Despite attempts to reach out for comment, DSP Alabo Alfred from the state police command had not replied at the time of reporting.
