The Abia State Government has initiated a thorough investigation into the collapse of an uncompleted three-storey building at Road 2 Junction in the Low-Cost Housing Estate, Umuahia. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has sparked renewed concerns over construction quality, regulatory enforcement, and public safety in the state capital.

Although no casualties have been reported, the state government responded swiftly, deploying emergency teams to secure the area and prevent further risks. Preliminary findings indicate that the structure gave way during construction, prompting officials from the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, along with engineers and safety inspectors, to launch an on-site assessment.

Authorities are examining whether proper building guidelines and approvals were followed. The government has pledged to hold accountable anyone found guilty of negligence or violation of building codes.

In an official statement, the Abia State Government reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing safety standards and protecting lives and property across the state. Developers and contractors were urged to comply strictly with approved regulations, with a stern warning that substandard construction will no longer be tolerated.

The collapse has reignited public calls for tighter regulation of the construction industry, including more rigorous inspections and stricter enforcement of building permits, as residents demand greater accountability and proactive governance to avert future disasters.
