Akwa Ibom State Police Command Arrests Armed Robbery Syndicate in Ikot Abasi
Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended an armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorizing Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. According to ASP Timfon John, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the arrests occurred on July 1, with some members of the gang still evading capture.
The suspects identified as John Okon Anta, Michael Osudua, and Inyene Joseph Edet reportedly assaulted a victim and robbed him at gunpoint, seizing his Qlink motorcycle, phones, power bank, and charger. Further investigations linked the suspects to previous burglaries in Afaha Ikot Abasi, where they stole cell phones and other valuables.
ASP Timfon John confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fugitives. She noted that the arrested suspects have confessed to their involvement and will face charges once investigations are complete.
Recovering a locally-made pistol during the operation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under CP Waheed Ayilara, expressed commitment to eliminating criminal activities and ensuring safety across the state. The CP urged the public to report any information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects to the police through emergency hotlines or nearby police stations.
