At Least 10 Feared Dead in Horrific Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash
Tragedy struck in the early hours of Tuesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, as a fatal road crash reportedly claimed no fewer than 10 lives.
The accident, described by eyewitnesses as one of the most devastating in recent memory, involved six vehicles — three Nissan Micra taxis and three articulated trucks. The high-impact collision left multiple vehicles mangled, with victims trapped inside.
“The crash happened at high speed, and the impact of the collision left several victims trapped inside the crushed vehicles. Some were confirmed dead on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” an eyewitness told PUNCH.
Mutilated bodies were said to be pulled from the wreckage by emergency responders who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Rescue operations were ongoing as of press time, with efforts focused on clearing the debris and attending to the injured.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the exact number of casualties or the cause of the crash, but speed and possible mechanical failure have not been ruled out.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest and most accident-prone highways. Tuesday’s incident adds to a growing list of deadly crashes along the route, often attributed to reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and inadequate enforcement of traffic laws.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations, as investigations into the latest crash continue.
